At West Windsor Together, we believe environmental stewardship is about more than protecting nature. It’s about protecting the quality of life for everyone who calls this community home. It’s about making smart, forward-thinking choices that preserve what we love, improve daily life, and prepare West Windsor for a sustainable future.
Our vision is simple: a community with vibrant open spaces, safe and welcoming sidewalks, clean and well-maintained neighborhoods, and policies that look ahead to the next generation. We’re committed to building that future and we have a plan to get there.
Protecting the Land That Defines Us
West Windsor is still home to roughly 200 acres of undeveloped land. We see that as an opportunity and a responsibility. Preserving this land as either open space, farmland, or green acres will protect our wetlands and wildlife, guide growth that reflects our community’s values, and ensure that future generations inherit the same natural beauty we enjoy today. Once this land is developed, it’s gone forever. That’s why we will aggressively pursue opportunities to preserve it now.
Caring for What We Plant
Our township invests significant resources in planting new trees, but too often, those trees are neglected after planting. Tree guards and braces are left in place too long, eventually choking and killing the very trees they were meant to protect. That leads to unnecessary costs for removal and replacement and undermines the health of our treescape.
West Windsor Together will make sure our township invests in ongoing tree care: loosening or removing supports at the right time and prioritizing maintenance that helps trees thrive. We will also work to help ensure that our sidewalks are properly repaired and maintained. Today, too many sidewalks damaged by roots remain hazardous and neglected. With proper budgeting, staffing, and planning, we can make our walkways safer and more accessible.
Cleaner Neighborhoods and Smarter Waste Solutions
A clean, healthy community starts with reliable services. When garbage pickup was reduced during the summer months to save costs, many residents were left frustrated and without alternatives. We believe West Windsor deserves better.
That’s why we support innovative solutions like a township-wide food waste composting program. This is a proven approach that reduces organic waste in trash, cuts down on landfill costs, and addresses concerns about less frequent pickups. Other towns like Princeton are already doing this successfully, and West Windsor can too.
Stronger Flood Protections and Smarter Stormwater Standards
With climate change we have stronger storms, and more frequent flooding has become the new normal. We need infrastructure that’s built for the future. Yet when the state required towns to update their stormwater ordinances in 2023, West Windsor chose to do only the bare minimum, ignoring recommendations from residents, council members, and environmental experts like The Watershed Institute.
West Windsor Together will strengthen our stormwater and flood protection standards, going beyond state minimums to safeguard homes, roads, and ecosystems. Doing so isn’t just about compliance, it’s about resilience.
Building a Sustainable Future Together
Environmental stewardship is about more than maintaining what we have, it’s about envisioning what’s possible now and into the future. That means supporting green building practices, preserving our tree canopy, expanding solar energy and EV infrastructure, and integrating sustainability into every decision we make as a community.
With thoughtful planning, smart investments, and a commitment to doing what is right, not just what is easy, we can protect what makes West Windsor special and build a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable future. Together, we can ensure that the place we love thrives for generations to come.
